Each Zero Waste Bag is opened upon receipt and visually inspected for any non-compliant materials, then consolidated for processing in bulk.
Materials are shredded and screened to separate tobacco, paper, and cellulose acetate. Filters are then cleaned in temperature-regulated water baths with agitation and surfactants to remove residual ash and other contaminants.
Separated tobacco and paper are dried, bulked, and composted. The cellulose acetate filters are size-reduced and sold as densified recycled plastic for use in manufacturing applications.
